On 14 October 2019, the verdict of the trial of El Procés is announced, the Catalan pro-independence leaders are sentenced to a total of 99 years and six months in prison.
Protests against the sentence begin on the same day and last for several weeks. Barcelona becomes international news for the clashes with the police and the burning of street furniture. The profile of the demonstrators was very young and, as in other cases, the sentence was the spark to make visible the lack of opportunities and the lack of a decent future.
Months later, some of the city's "wounds" still persist, others have been covered up, leaving more than obvious scars. The malaise continues.
