On May 26, 2003, a Yakolev 42 aircraft chartered by the Spanish army crashed in Maçka (Turkey) with 75 people on board. There were 62 Spanish soldiers and 13 crew members returning from Afghanistan.
As the investigation progressed, numerous irregularities were discovered around the accident. The mistaken identification of 30 of the bodies and the poor state of the plane due to the 7 subcontractors made by the Spanish Ministry of Defense made this accident one of the most controversial of the Spanish democracy.
Families spent more than a decade struggling to clarify the whole truth.
